Van is a Vietnamese name as I'm originally from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Growing up in three different countries (Vietnam, Singapore, and the USA) has developed in me a global and adaptive mindset that allows me to look at things from a more diverse and empathetic perspective. My international background, coupled with my education in Business, has contributed greatly to my projects as a UX designer by helping me understand users' unique needs to create effective solutions that enhance the user experience.

My Story

"Creativity is intelligence having fun." - Albert Einstein

I love using creativity to solve problems. Before I even knew about UX design, I often found myself thinking of alternative ways to improve a product and make it more user-friendly. I remember back when QR codes began to get popular and users had to rely on QR code reader apps to scan QR codes, I thought of the possibility of integrating the QR code scanning feature into the main phone cameras. About a year later, Apple introduced its software update which included QR code scanner in iPhone cameras, exactly what I had imagined. Back when I was a high school student in Singapore, I also did a project to curb the problem of bicycle theft by designing an AI-powered, trackable, and motion detecting bicycle lock that would notify the owner of suspicious movements via a mobile app. The lock also had an alarm to scare thieves off once stealing motion was detected.

Little did I know that I had been subconsciously doing the works of a UX designer. Ever since I first heard of UX design in late 2021, something in me just clicked and I have been mesmerized by the process of empathizing with users in order to come up with creative solutions using digital platforms. My Business background has trained me to provide the best customer service which I believe can be put to good use in the UX design process that aims to create the best user experience.

My Hobbies

I love learning, traveling, and boba tea.

In my free time, I like to learn new things through YouTube videos and educational courses on Coursera. I'm a big believer of lifelong learning and convinced that as long as we're willing to learn, our teachers are everywhere.

I also love traveling because it allows me to explore new things, meet new people, and discover new cultures. When I'm traveling, I always find myself looking for a place that has good boba tea.
